James studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture (UCL), graduating with first class honours at undergraduate level and distinction for diploma with commendation for thesis. He has exhibited extensively in London, recently holding a joint exhibition with Tom Reynolds at the Vyner Street Gallery (2011), where he currently lives and works.
